The Front Cover shows a variety of seleno-glycolipids being synthesized by the coupling of sugar units (in the left hand of the experimenter) and seleno-lipid units (falling with the moonlight), which work as useful detergents for X-ray structural studies of membrane proteins (in the river). A castle on the mountain flanked by a meandering river is a symbolic piece of the landscape of Gifu where these molecules have been synthesized. The moon is drawn as the allegory of selenium that was named after the Greek goddess of the moon, Selene. The authors thank Mindy Takamiya for designing the cover picture.
